10/30/08: lovin’ skif at heavenly metal!

I’ve been lovin’ Skif for all the years they’ve been hand-making funky, functional, free-form sweaters in their St. Louis studio. Their collection is trendless and hip, always changing and always now. And not available in the mall. Natural fibers are used, including yarns imported from Italy, Belgium, Turkey and Ireland. Each sweater is a one-of-a-kind piece of wearable art. I’m lovin’ being able to carry them for you!

Here’s Julia modeling the pieces she’s lovin’ — a long-sleeve sweater and long vest + a silk chiffon handmade scarf by Red Chair Studio:

Laurie didn’t miss out either! She got the Skif sleeveless jumper + be.ology’s organic cotton be compassionate long-sleeve crew and Luna Luz’s cotton leggings. Laurie left the store Saturday lovin’ the new outfit she wore for after-the-game dinner downtown with friends:

10/23/08: Baggu giveaway #2

Look what my haircut client, Melanie, made for me! I’ve been cutting Melanie’s hair since before her cute little toddler Elizabeth was born. Not just a fan of my haircuts and Heavenly Metal, Melanie also adores Lucy. :-) She came in the shop recently and gave me this sweet little mini-Lucy that she felted herself.

I thought it would be fun to make mini-Lucy part of the next Baggu giveaway. Soooooo… find a picture of mini-Lucy somewhere on my website. Leave a comment describing the picture… but don’t give away which page you found it on! ;-) I’ll draw one person’s name on November 15th. The winner will receive an email from me.

10/20/08: Big and Baby Baggus have arrived!

Dana is showing off the new BIG and BABY BAGGU’S that just came in — in a limited supply — in fuschia, black, mustard yellow, olive green, and aqua. Dana loves ‘em! She says they are great add-ons to the original Baggu we sell! Come in soon for yours….they’ll sell out quickly! But worry not: lots more will arrive by the end of the month.

10/9/08: I just love ‘em . . . . Tiffany Ownbey’s sculptures, that is!

TIffany Ownbey’s paper mache folk art sculptures make me very very happy!

The North Carolina artist uses recycled and found objects and used paper products for heads, arms, and hands, then builds out the figures with paper mache. Here’s a photo of Tiffany in her Ann Arbor Art FaIr booth back in July, where her pieces were flying out of her booth!

This is one of her “small figures“, made with old porcelain and plastic doll heads. The figures are 12″ high and 8″ wide, available in purple, red, and pink and are just precious!

“Mrs. and Mr. Teacup” are a fabulous recycling idea! The girls’ skirts are used tin lids, their hats vintage kids tin teacups, and they all hold an antique spoon. Soooo cute at 14″ in red or green!

“Vase boy” is 15″ tall. The hole in his head is a glass vase, so he really pulls off the Carmen Miranda look well! He comes in blue or green, skinny or chubby.

“Fly Boy” bears vintage Atomic Flyer metal wings attached to a metal ring. His head is a vintage porcelain doll head, he’s about 12″ tall and he’s ready to fly into someone’s home.

Some people find “Bunny in Heels” kind of scary, but I think she’s quite cute. Maybe it’s her size: she comes on strong at 22″. She has a green Bunny in Heels pal and a white Cat in Heels hanging out with her in the store, all ready for adoption.

10/1/08: . . . and the winner is . . . .

If you’re on the Heavenly Metal mailing list, you know that today is the day for the free baggu drawing!

In the September e-newsletter I announced that I would choose one lucky winner from everyone who left a comment on my blog during the month. Wow! A ton of comments were written — thank you!

So, I thought it would be kinda boring just to draw a name out of a hat. Here’s what I did instead:
